Assistance for CICV in Full Vehicle MIMO-OTA Test and Research


As automobiles are much larger than mobile phone devices, the investment for MIMO-OTA testing will be larger as well. Many questions need to be answered to control the size of the anechoic chamber and number of probes in it, to control the link budget to a reasonable level, and to control the investment to a reasonable scale. In addition, it has been proven that MPAC and RTS are almost equivalent in MIMO-OTA chipset testing, but both methods face respective challenges when migrated into full vehicle OTA testing. Theoretical analysis but short of complete testing data means only vendors with more experience and more investment are able to fulfill the tasks and play their roles in the development of standards and the creation of new solutions.

Key Requirements

The full vehicle MIMO-OTA tests are mainly designed for 4G/5G communication modules and C-V2X modules (module + antenna part) and need to use international standards like 3GPP or CTIA to evaluate the test solutions. For the cost considerations, CICV chose to use the RTS method for the research of full vehicle MIMO-OTA performance test solution. And it has put forth the following detailed requirements:

  • Supporting the frequency range from 380Mhz to 5925 MHz

  • Supporting 100MHz of bandwidth

  • Supporting 3GPP standardized channel models for 3G, 4G and 5G, 3GPP D2D models, and near field V2X models with customizable parameters

  • Supporting 4x4 radiated two-stage MIMO OTA modeling
